Rainfall earlier this week has put a bit of a damper on Moncton’s “Festival Inspire,” but Friday, the sun meant the city could be painted with a hundred colours.

Mural artists from around are painting a collection of murals around Greater Moncton.

After losing two days worth of working thanks to the weather, artists like Christopher Konecki — from sunny California — are rushing to finish their murals before the festival wraps on the weekend.

“That is the good thing about spray paint, it covers pretty quickly so we will head on through the weekend and get done on time,” Konecki said.

Festival creative director Matthew Kingsley Williston says they were planning to finish 13 murals, but due t lost time they will likely only complete 10.

Rainfal is nothing new for artist Dan Kitchener from Essex. He’s been feeling right at home and was inspired by the dreary weather.

“I tend to paint rainy cityscapes because I am from England and it rains all the time in England,” Kitchener said.

Ironically, his mural depicting a rain soaked street in Tokyo was one of the only murals not impacted by the rain.

“I was really lucky because the rain was not actually hitting the wall, it was hitting me but the wall stayed perfectly dry the whole time,” he said.

But with sunny weather expected for the remainder of the festival, most artists are confident they will complete their works by Sunday.
