Storm rolls over southern Manitoba Friday morning

Golf ball hail fell in Morden, and some parts of the province saw more than 70 mm of rain .

WINNIPEG — The streets of Winnipeg are full of puddles after a huge storm rolled over the city early Friday morning.

The thunderstorm came in around 6 a.m. and hit the city around 6:30 a.m.

It left around 30-40 mm of rainfall and south Winnipeg was hit the hardest. The highest total came from Twitter user @jjcwpg, who reported around 44 mm of rain in south St. Vital. These heavy downpours lasted for approximately less than an hour.

Weather watchers with CoCoRaHS have registered rainfall amounts of over 50 mm as of 8 a.m. in Zhonda, Winkler and Letellier.

Even Winnipeg Transit felt the affects of the rainstorm. One bus heading down Chevrier Boulevard was flooded with water on the morning commute.

According to Environment Canada, storms are predicted to re-form this afternoon in at least the Sprague region.

Many people in the area took to social media to post photos of the heavy rain coming in and the street flooding after.

Earlier Friday morning, the storm also passed through Winkler, Man., which brought golf ball-sized hail in the area.

In Winnipeg, the clouds are expected to clear this afternoon and we should have a high of 27 C.
