Alberta boater pulled from Sylvan Lake; declared dead

A 70-year-old Alberta man was pronounced dead after being pulled from Sylvan Lake, according to RCMP.

Mounties said just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to help find a boater who had disappeared on the central Alberta lake, located about 30 minutes west of Red Deer.

They said a man had rented a boat just before noon and was last seen alive at 3:15 p.m. by someone working for the boat rental company.

At 4:50 p.m., an employee found the boat on the north remote shore of the lake but nobody was in it.

Police said officers used a boat to search for the missing man and a short time later, discovered the boater in the water in an isolated location.

The man was pulled from the water where paramedics tried to save his life but the man was pronounced dead shortly after.

RCMP said they are working the the Calgary medical examiner to determine what led to the man’s death but added the man’s passing is not believed to be suspicious.
