TransCanada donates land to emergency services and training in southern Alberta

The Municipal District of Foothills No. 31 and the Town of High River announced a donation from TransCanada Corporation Saturday, during the National at Spruce Meadows.

A 60-acre piece of land has been donated by TransCanada, which will be used as a fire training centre for High River and Foothills. The plan is to also have a fire station located there in the future.

The donation is to improve emergency services and training in southern Alberta.

Ted Mills, deputy mayor for the Municipal District of Foothills, said it’s very important to have a convenient place to train staff.

“At the present time, our firefighting staff have to be trained outside the MD in Calgary or Lethbridge. It’s really important for us to be able to have this facility within the municipality,” Mills said.

The MD is a rural landscape located south of Calgary, located in the foothills of southern Alberta near Okotoks, High River, Turner Valley and Black Diamond.
