Volunteers in
Victoria Park were busy setting up tents and musicians lit up the stage today in
downtown Regina
as part of the annual Folk Festival.
“It’s a time when
people become part of a new community. We built a city in Victoria park, and it’s a
really nice city,” says Artistic Director Sandra
Butel.
The Heit family
comes here every year.
“I think it’s a good
family orientated (sic) gathering for people of all ages, all creeds, all
kinds,” says Damon Heit.

“I’m an ex-hippie,
we all like outdoor concerts,” says Mary Heit.
With vendors setting
up shop in the park, there promises to be a lot to keep people interested this
weekend. In fact, the venue is even bigger this year, and organizers are hoping
they won’t have to turn anyone away.
This weekend will
feature Canadian favourites like The Wooden Sky. While the audience gets a lot
out of it, so do the performers.

For the folks are
Boomtown Drums, this is one of the best times to
sell.
“The folk festival is
the festival where people really come for the music. And quite often we sell
things to the bands that are playing,” says Joanne
Crofford.
