A teacher with the Regina Catholic School Division (RCSD) was overpaid for more than 25 years, according to the latest loss report from Saskatchewan boards of education.
The report indicates that from September 1989 to December 2015, the employee was paid more than they should have been based on their qualifications. In total, the teacher was overpaid by $164,119. The teacher did not disclose the overpayment to the school division.
The school division has terminated the employee and is working on getting the money back. The division has also reviewed all the employees in the pay class and said all other employees are being appropriately compensated. The RCSD also confirmed on Monday that the case is before the court.

The RCSD reported another loss from January 2015 to December 2015. According to the report, an employee was making purchases unrelated to work using a school division card for a total of $2,679.
That employee was terminated and the school division is pursuing recovery of the amount from the former employee. The RCSD said it has implemented procedural changes that will improve oversight with the purchasing card program.
The third loss came from Conseil des écoles fransaskoises, who said an employee’s house was broken into and vandalized. Some items were stolen including a laptop from the school division, a total of $1,400. The incident was reported to the police.
