KELOWNA – Some Petro-Canada gas stations in the Okanagan have run out of gasoline and the others expect to soon.

“There’s a gas shortage in Western Canada right now, specifically Petro-Canada because the Fort McMurray fires have affected a refinery in northern Alberta so we are not able to get any gas supply,” says Victoria Lomsdalen.

She’s the manager of the station at Highway 97 near Dilworth Drive in Kelowna.

“We weren’t really forewarned or anything,” says Lomsdalen. “It just kind of was ‘you’re going to be out of gas pretty soon’ and then it happened.”

Petro-Canada, which is supplied by Suncor, is trying to bring in more fuel from its own network as well as third party suppliers.

“Given the prolonged duration of the fires and its impact on the supply for our refinery, as well as ongoing planned seasonal
maintenance in the industry, our product inventories are greatly reduced,” says Sneh Seetal.
