Thomas Sierzycki not seeking re-election as mayor of La Ronge, Sask.

Saying he is putting his family first, La Ronge, Sask. Mayor Thomas Sierzycki will not be seeking re-election this fall. Sierzycki made the announcement Tuesday morning on Facebook.

“Just as my parents did for my sister and me, I have decided that I need to put my family first. It is important to me to be with my wife Jodie every step of the way as our wonderful son Jozef grows up,” stated Sierzycki.

Sierzycki was first elected mayor in 2009 at the age of 21, making him one of the youngest mayors ever elected in Canada. He previously was elected to council in 2006.

He became known across the country last summer when the community was forced to evacuate due to threats from wildfires.

Sierzycki ran for the Saskatchewan Party in the 2016 provincial election, placing second to incumbent Doyle Vermette in the riding of Cumberland.
