SASKATOON – Charlie Clark’s bid to become the next mayor of Saskatoon was made official at the Delta Bessborough Hotel Wednesday. After 10 years on city council, Clark stood behind a podium and told a packed room how he wants to make Saskatoon “a model prairie city for the 21st century.”

“Being mayor, it’s not a ceremonial position. The mayor also needs to do the hard work of getting the best ideas to the table and turning them into concrete actions that produce results,” Clark said.

In November 2014, current Mayor Don Atchison announced his plans to seek re-election.

With Atchison as his only opponent so far, Clark said his campaign isn’t about a race between left wing and right wing candidates.

It won’t be a race of pro-development versus anti-development, downtown versus suburbs, or car drivers versus cyclists, he added.

“I have a ton of respect for Don Atchison and I know he has worked hard for this city,” Clark said.

“What I don’t see is that active role of strategically bringing people together and making sure that we’re putting the pieces in place to actually succeed on these plans,” Clark said.

Clark was first elected to city council for Ward 6 in 2006.

He holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Arts in Conflict Resolution Studies from The University of Winnipeg and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Studies from York University.

He lives in Nutana with his wife Sarah Buhler and their three children.

Saskatoon’s municipal election is scheduled for Oct. 26.
