General Hospital star Kirsten Storms is taking a leave of absence from the long-running soap, citing “breakouts” as the reason.

Storms wrote a message to her fans on Facebook.

She claims that the breakouts were becoming too difficult for the makeup team at General Hospital to cover up.

Storms, 32, who plays Maxie Jones on the soap, has already been recast — at least temporarily.

Storms previously took medical leave from General Hospital from September 2011 to August 2012, and Jen Lilley temporarily stepped in to play the character. Lilley is now a permanent fixture on Days of Our Lives, so she’s not a viable alternative this time around.

ABC has confirmed that former Days of Our Lives alum Molly Burnett will be temporarily taking over for Storms.

Burnett will start appearing as Maxie Jones in July.

General Hospital just did an emergency recast for Tyler Christopher, who plays Nikolas on the TV show, after he “took time off” during contract negotiations.

In April, Storms announced that she and her General Hospital co-star Brandon Barash were divorcing after three years of marriage. The couple have a two-year-old daughter, Harper.
