North Central activist seeks council position in Ward 6

Long time concerned North Central resident announces council candidacy, plan to tackle crime – May 19, 2016

REGINA – Residents in the North Central community of Regina are grieving as they try to make sense of the continued violence outside their doors.

All three of the city’s homicides this year have taken place in the neighbourhood.

One long-time resident says the area is in crisis and is now taking a big step towards trying to make a change.

“I’m announcing my candidacy to make Ward 6 a healthier, happier and safer community.” -Connie Dieter

Connie Dieter made official Thursday her plans to run for councillor of Ward 6.

Educated in law from Osgoode Hall in Toronto and anthropology from the University of Alberta, Dieter has long been involved in the community.

“I’m ready and willing to put all of my experience, my education, my background, towards making a change. I can no longer stand by and not do anything.”

Long-time Ward 6 councillor Wade Murray wished to congratulate Deiter on her announcement.

Murray is still in the process of deciding whether he will run again for the councillor position, saying 13 years is a long time, but acknowledging there is still a lot of work to be done.

Regina’s municipal election takes place October 26.
