Red Deer RCMP said it may have “jumped the gun” in reporting an attempted abduction of a young girl earlier this week.
On Tuesday, Mounties said a 13-year-old girl was walking in the area of 60 Street and Taylor Drive, near the Taylor Heights apartment building, around 7 p.m. Monday night.

Investigators said she was approached by a man as she crossed an intersection. He tried to engage her in conversation, then grabbed her wrist and demanded that she come with him. The girl kicked the man in the shins, broke free and ran away.
The man recognized himself in media reports and turned himself in. After what RCMP call a thorough investigation, they determined that the man had no ill intent and no charges will be laid.
When pressed for further information, RCMP would only tell Global News the incident was a misunderstanding and they were premature in referring to it as an attempted abduction. They declined to provide any further information, citing privacy reasons.
