Manslaughter charge in death of Saskatoon baby

Saskatoon police have charged a man with manslaughter following the death of a baby earlier this year. The eight-month-old girl was found unresponsive on Jan. 29 at an apartment in the 100-block of Avenue P South.

The baby was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police now believe she was asphyxiated due to actions taken by a 27-year-old man.

Along with manslaughter, he is also facing charges of criminal negligence causing death and failure to provide the necessities of life. His name has not been released.

He was originally arrested on Jan 29. and charged with breaches of a conditional sentence order.

He is scheduled to appear Friday in Saskatoon provincial court on the new charges.
