Westlock County councillor charged with assaulting county reeve

EDMONTON – A Westlock County councillor has been charged with assault in connection with an incident that occurred ahead of a county council meeting last month.

Westlock RCMP said an alleged assault was reported to them on April 25. According to police, the incident unfolded on April 19 after an argument broke out between three elected officials and a physical fight involving Councillor Dennis Primeau and County Reeve Bud Massey ensued.

Primeau, 66, has been charged with one count of assault and will appear in Westlock Provincial Court on May 25.

Mounties said the incident did not result in any serious injuries.
