KITCHENER, Ont. – The City of Kitchener continues its efforts to identify and clean up the spill of a “petroleum-like substance” into the Grand River last week.
The city says it will be meeting with the Ministry of the Environment and the Region of Waterloo to come up with a plan to clean up the spill.

It says they were notified last Friday by the ministry about a spill after someone noticed a sheen on the water.
They say they have contained the spill at the point of entry, but still have not identified the source of the substance.
A boom has been installed to soak up the substance and workers are digging up and removing affected soil along the river’s banks.
The city is asking residents to stay out of the river.
