A giant slip-and-slide set up in Kensington last summer will be returning to Calgary in 2016.
Slide the City will bring 300 metres of soapy wet vinyl to 10 Street N.W. on July 30.
Last year, over 8,000 people attended Calgary’s first-ever Slide the City event held on Aug 1 and 2.
“We can’t wait to come back to Calgary,” spokeswoman Amy Gessel said in a Wednesday news release. “Last year was not only our first stop in Calgary, but our first ever Slide the City season. This year is sure to be our best yet.”
In 2015, Slide the City organizers caused controversy when they announced those who had originally purchased so-called ‘unlimited slider passes’ would have a specific ‘wave time’ they had to adhere to. Many began demanding refunds when they realized they would no longer be able to attend the event.
This year, Slide the City is offering potential participants the chance to purchase a single slider pass, a triple slider pass, an ultimate slider pass or an all day slider pass.
According to the Slide the City website, those who purchase the ultimate slider pass “can slide as many times as possible between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon only” while those who opt for the all day slider pass can “slide as many times as possible throughout the day.”
Single slider passes, meanwhile, are good for just one slide – while triple slider passes will give you three.
New this year, organizers said participants will be asked to select a specific wave times when they register.
“Wave times allow sliders to get the amount of slides they purchased in a shorter amount of time, so they can enjoy the block party,” Slide the City co-owner John Malfatto said.
According to organizers, the 2016 event will include music, street entertainers and local vendors.
Online registration for the event opens on May 11.
Anyone over 5 years old and 46 inches tall is welcome to participate.
