Deezar was noticeably absent at last weekend’s Bisons spring camp. He had work commitments and the Herd were more interested in seeing what the other quarterbacks had to offer in the battle for the backup job.

Instead Deezar spent last week at Bombers mini-camp lending a helping hand and getting some invaluable experience.

“I’ve learned so much,” said Deezar. “From Buck Pierce and Drew Willy and all those guys, watching them, watching their feet, watching their read progressions and the way their mind works. It’s cool to just be around that caliber of an athlete.”

“Just a great opportunity.” said head coach Brian Dobie. “Especially, especially for any CIS athlete but at the quarterback position. To me it’s more of seeing the professionalism around him from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterbacks, from their coaches and how they operate.”

Deezar still has three years of university eligibility remaining after coming up in the St. Paul’s Crusaders football program. His 2,227 passing yards were third best in Canada West and his 17 touchdown passes ranked second in the conference. Another chance to play with the pros only moves him a step closer to realizing his dream of playing professional.

“It’s the coolest job in the world, certainly seems like it anyways,” Deezar said. “If I could do that, then I’d definitely be happy.”

The Blue Bombers open rookie camp on May 25.
