SASKATOON – The inevitable is about to happen. Construction in Saskatoon will clog key roads this summer, leaving 18,000 motorists rerouting their commute.
Starting Monday, May 2, the Broadway Avenue improvement project will get underway and will last for at least five months.
During that time extensive work will be done to replace century-old water mains and roadways will be resurfaced.

Saskatoon Transit riders will want to give themselves some extra time since several route detours will be required.
And here’s the big date to pencil into your calendar – May 9. The Broadway Bridge will be shut down for one week so expect some traffic tie-ups. The closure won’t affect pedestrians and cyclists.
Officials say last year’s closure of the University Bridge taught them a thing or two.
“I think one of the things we learnt last year was communication, a lot of upfront communication and trying to provide as much information to citizens is probably the best and warn them ahead so frustration don’t build up,” said Celene Anger, the city’s director of construction and design.
It’s anticipated stores will only be shut down a day at a time and pedestrian traffic can come and go.
