Conditional approval has been given to the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) to build a new casino in Lloydminster.
“We have been interested in expanding into Lloydminster for some time so it’s exciting not only for our organization and First Nations people, but also for residents and tourists who will visit this new casino,” said FSIN vice-chief Heather Bear.
There are still steps to be taken before construction starts on the new casino, including a community consultation plan, and approval from the City of Lloydminster, the province and FSIN chiefs.
“For the past 20 years the success of our SIGA casinos has been enabled by partnerships with local First Nations and Tribal Councils,” said FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron.
“This helps to create First Nations economic opportunities that are based on our economic self-determination.”

The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Association (SIGA) currently operates six casinos in the province with more than 1,800 employees, 65 per cent whom are First Nations.
Fifty per cent of net profits from SIGA casinos go to the First Nation Trust, 25 per cent to the province’s general revenue fund and the remaining 25 per cent to community development corporations.
