Attempted murder charge laid in northern Sask. assault

A woman is in a Saskatoon hospital with life-threatening injuries and a man is in custody following an assault in northern Saskatchewan. The assault happened Sunday morning on the Red Earth First Nation, which is approximately 290 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon.

According to police, a woman was found outside a home early in the morning in need of medical assistance. She was taken to Nipawin Hospital and then airlifted to a Saskatoon hospital. There is no word on her current condition.

Mounties issued a warrant for Caleb Head and he was arrested late Monday evening.

Police say Head and the victim are known to each other.

He is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and breach of probation.

Head is scheduled to appear in Nipawin provincial court on Wednesday morning.
