Toronto police have made an arrest in connection to an alleged sexual assault of a woman inside a Toronto apartment building stairwell earlier this month.
Police say the 52-year-old victim was approached by a man in an elevator around 10:30 p.m. on April 9.
The suspect then pulled out a handgun and forced the woman into a stairwell where she was sexually assaulted.
The incident took place at an apartment building located in the area of Parliament Street and Howard Street.
Security footage released on the night of the assault shows a man walking inside the building hallway and leaving through the front door.
The suspect was arrested on Tuesday and has been identified as 25-year-old Kyle Michael Junior Young.
He faces a number of charges including sexual assault with a firearm, use firearm in the commission of an indictable offence, careless use of a firearm, and utter death threats.
The accused was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
Police are encouraging anyone who made have been in contact with the suspect to come forward.
“We believe that due to his actions just prior to the attack, the nature of the attack, and the fact that the victim and the accused were unknown to each other, that there may be other victims out there,” said Det. Sgt. Joanne Rudnick during a press conference Wednesday morning.
