WEST KELOWNA — They’re in their 70’s and 80’s and still playing the game they love.
A wildly popular seniors hockey league in West Kelowna offers a way to stay active in the golden years, but working out too hard can be hard on the heart.
Now the Ogopogo 70 plus men’s hockey team has some extra help on the bench, with a heart attack prevention tool seated right beside them.

It’s called a pulse oximeter.
All you have to do is put it on your finger, press one button, and it measures your heart rate and oxygen levels.
Two members of the Ogopogo team have suffered heart attacks on the ice in the past three years and both were saved by defibrillators. About a handful of other players have also had some sort of heart issue during a game, including Granger Evans.
So Evans convinced the team to purchase the portable devices, to help prevent heart attacks from happening.
The heart monitor costs about $30 online, but gives peace of mind that’s priceless.
