VAUDREUIL — It’s a long wait for tens of thousands of drivers crossing the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge everyday.
Repair work on a crack in the structure found four months ago still isn’t finished.

Initially, the former Transport Minister, Robert Poeti, said last January the work would last eight to ten weeks.
Now, Transports Quebec says it could be another couple of months.

“Hopefully at the end of this spring everything will be okay,” Namba Daniel of Transports Quebec told Global News.
There are 88,000 drivers crossing the 50-year-old bridge everyday.
Many are often stuck in morning rush hour traffic.
The bridge is supposed to be open to three lanes in each direction at all times but during the repair work only two lanes are open at certain times of the day.

“My biggest issue it just feels somewhat dangerous going down to two lanes on the way back home,” Chris Hoffman, a driver who crosses the bridge daily told Global News Tuesday.
The bridge is slated to eventually be replaced but exactly when is unknown.
Transports Quebec has other infrastructure priorities that the department is dealing with in the immediate future.
