A male teenager shot and killed near a busy downtown intersection of downtown Toronto this week has been identified as a student from Central Toronto Academy.
Gabriel Nikov, 18, was gunned down on Yonge Street just north of Bloor Street around 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Police say officers located the youth without vital signs and was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators say they are searching for three suspects in connection to the shooting.
The principal from Central Toronto Academy said in a written letter sent to parents on Thursday that “some students are understandably upset.”
“This has been a sombre day for our school community as we mourn the sudden and tragic loss of this young life,” wrote Iwona Kurman.
“I know that you will join with all of us in expressing our deepest condolences to grieving family and friends.”
Nikov’s Facebook page reveals he was an aspiring rapper who had set up a SoundCloud account with his recordings.
The school said they are offering support and counselling services for students and staff.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-5300 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
