Archery event expected to draw hundreds

An archery event planned for this weekend in the Okanagan is attracting crowds of shooters, the likes of which have never been seen in the region before.

Ken Garwasiuk of Hardcore Archery is hosting the two day event at Hartland Ranch in Joe Rich. He is expecting about 600 archers from all over Western Canada and Washington State to make the trip to the Okanagan because of the quality of the targets.

Shooters will be aiming their arrows at Rinehart targets. The targets are touted as some of the best in the world and are worth as much as $10,000. Around 100 of the animal shaped targets are being erected at Hartland Ranch.

Garasiuk estimates you can shoot a thousand arrows into the “unique” foam targets before you see any damages.

On day one of the event, shooters will take aim at North American animal targets; day two will feature African animals.

Garwasiuk says events like this increase the profile of the sport of archery.

Last week, the B.C. Archery Championships were held in Salmon Arm and next week, the Canadian Nations will run at Silver Star.
