Schools in New Brunswick were put in lockdown Tuesday after a non-specific threat was made toward schools in the province.
“Just before lunch, the Office of the Superintendent received a notice of a threatening nature regarding unidentified schools in our district,” reads a statement from the Anglophone East School District.
“We immediately implemented the Provincial Violent Threat Assessment Protocol, attached to this email, and notified the RCMP.”
RCMP responded to Moncton High as well as all others in the district.
The threat said something was going to happen at a school within 20 minutes, the district said. All schools are expected to remain in hold and secure until the end of the school day, when they will be dismissed normally.
Hold and secure restricts movement of staff and students to inside the school and the exterior doors to the building are locked until students are dismissed.
In a voicemail message sent to parents, district superintendent Gregg Ingersoll said the threat was made to the district office, not a particular school, so all schools were put in lockdown.
Ingersoll said RCMP are at the district office now investigating the threat.
