Edmonton Food Bank distributes record number of hampers

A national report states food banks across Canada have reported an increase in the number of people they're serving. File / Global News

EDMONTON —Edmonton’s Food Bank said it delivered a record number of hampers in March.

A record 20,431 people received hampers from the food bank last month, according to the organization.

The Edmonton Food Bank said it’s been experiencing an surge in the number of people needing its help. The organization saw an increase of close to 60 per cent between December 2014 and December 2015.

The organization has launched several initiatives and partnerships over the next two months to assist those in need, including partnering with BGS Career & Corporate Development to host a free resume and job search tips workshop on April 21.

The City of Edmonton has also been providing a social worker at Edmonton’s Food Bank in order to connect those in need with other services and help them navigate government services.
