Ontario man harassed with fake police posters calling him ‘dangerous’ child sex offender

Police say an Oshawa, Ont. man was harassed by having his face plastered on fake police posters at his work accusing him of being a dangerous sex offender, and investigators are hoping to identify a suspect.

Durham Regional police officers responded to a report of harassment by a man who works in Oshawa, after the fake posters were found at a business on Dundas Street East and the Campus Ice Centre.

The posters contained the man’s photograph, name and the official logos of the police force and CityNews. They also erroneously stated the man was a “dangerous Oshawa predator” who had been charged with possession of child pornography and child luring.

Police said a letter containing a copy of the poster and a threatening message were delivered to the man’s place of business.

Sgt. Bill Calder said police currently don’t have any suspects and are appealing to the public for information.
