MONTREAL – The inevitable summer construction blitz will soon get underway across the city and it seems there won’t be a way for commuters to escape the looming maze of detours.
There are 400 construction projects planned on the island this year alone.

Repairing the city’s infrastructure won’t be cheap.

More than half a billion dollars — a record amount — will be spent on road and water projects alone.
Of that amount, $200 million is earmarked for massive road repairs.

Another $252 million is budgeted for the water network.
The point-man in charge is hoping Montrealers will notice a difference by the end of the year.

“We’re talking about another record year of $531 million,” said Lionel Perez, Montreal Executive Committee Member.
“We’re talking about over 400 work sites, of which about 20 are very intensive.”
