WELLAND, Ont. — Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit says it will probe the recent death of a 93-year-old man whose body was found in the Welland Canal.
The SIU says Niagara Regional Police were called to the canal on March 31 where they allegedly interacted with the man.
The SIU says the man’s body was found in the canal half a day later.
The unit did not provide any details as to the man’s identity or the nature of his interaction with police.
The SIU is an arms-length agency that investigates situations between police and civilians in which someone is killed, hurt or accused of sexual assault.
