EDMONTON — A woman’s body was found at the scene of an early Monday morning house fire in southeast Edmonton.
The fire broke out at around 2:30 a.m. at a home in the area of 43 Street and 21 Avenue. Fire crews arrived at the cul-de-sac just off Mill Woods Road East and 23 Avenue to find flames shooting from the house.
The victim has been identified as a woman in her early 70s. The 911 call came from the woman’s daughter who lives in the house and was awoken by smoke detectors.
“It’s a very quiet neighbourhood, right? So you never expect that kind of stuff,” neighbour Sukhchein Dhalaiwa said. He said it was mostly families living in the 14 homes in the cul-de-sac.
At this point it’s not known if the woman was killed by the fire. The victim’s daughter escaped without injuries, along with three cats.
