WATCH ABOVE: Toronto police reported more than 500 collisions on GTA roads overnight, due to a late winter storm that left roads slushy and slippery. Cindy Pom reports – Apr 4, 2016

Motorists are being warned to drive with caution during the morning rush hour commute due to slick road conditions caused by the snowfall overnight in the Greater Toronto Area.

Ontario Provincial Police say they’ve responded to more than 500 collision calls — including a pileup Sunday on Highway 400 north of Toronto involving up to 40 vehicles.

Nine people were treated for minor injuries.

In Toronto, at least five people were injured after a TTC bus lost control and crashed into a concreted barrier overnight.

Authorities say the bus was heading to Toronto Pearson International Airport when it spun out on Highway 427 northbound at Rathburn Road.

Toronto police say more than 100 collisions were reported in the last 12 hours.

Snowfall warnings and special weather statements were in effect for many communities including the Greater Toronto Area, Halton-Peel, Dufferin-Innisfil, York and Durham Region.

In total, 10 to 20 centimetres of snow is forecast to fall by early this morning.
