Trailer Park Boys actress Lucy DeCoutere said Saturday that she’s quitting the series following the arrest of co-star Mike Smith on a domestic battery charge.

“If I find out that somebody is abusive, I cut them out of my life. It’s very easy,” DeCoutere said on Twitter.

When asked by one of her followers if the resignation was connected to Smith’s arrest, she replied: “Yes.”

In a statement Smith, who plays the character Bubbles on Trailer Park Boys, denied any wrongdoing. The statement claimed the arrest stemmed from a misunderstanding between Smith and Georgia Ling in Los Angeles.

“Georgia is a friend of mine and we had a loud and heated dispute,” Smith said in the statement. “That is all. At no time did I assault her. I am not guilty of the misdemeanour charged against me.”

The statement also claimed the other cast members “all stand behind Mike and look forward to the matter being resolved favourably.”

DeCoutere was the only publicly named complainant in the trial of Jian Ghomeshi, in which she claimed the former CBC Radio host sexually assaulted her. Ghomeshi was acquitted of all charges.
