Saskatoon officially sets snowball fight record

SASKATOON – It’s official! Saskatoon has officially set the world record for the largest snowball fight.

The Guinness Book of World Records confirmed Thursday that 7,681 people took part in the snowball fight in Victoria Park on Jan. 31, 2016.

The event was organized by Yukigassen Team Canada members and held on the last day of PotashCorp Wintershines festival.

“I was humbled and in awe of how many people came down to participate in or witness the attempt for the world largest snowball fight,” said Mandy Pravda, marketing manager for the festival.

“You could feel the community spirit and excitement in the air as people of all ages made snowballs.”

The previous record holder was Seattle, with 5,834 participants.
