A strange scene unfolded in Medina, Tenn., Friday night when a car got tangled in overhead power lines.
No, it didn’t travel through time and miss its landing: police said the driver, an unnamed 56-year-old woman, was unfamiliar with area and drove above the 30 mph speed limit losing control of her vehicle. She drove off the road, hit a fence and drove up a guide-wire attached to a utility pole.
The car spun up the pole and a wire wrapped around one of its tires, suspending the 2002 Saturn 2.5 metres in the air for two hours.
Police said that there were no indications of drugs, alcohol, distractions or medical conditions that may have contributed to the incident.
Medina Fire Chief Jeff Rollins called the incident a “freak accident.”
“The main thing was to get the power lines secured and to get her out of there,” he told The Jackson Sun.
Crews reached the passenger side of the car with a raised bucket and broke the window to bring the woman down.
She was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries and has since been released.
