CALGARY – Chase Daniel Adam Collier turned himself in to police after he found out they were looking for him in connection with a sex assault that happened in Sandstone Valley at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
Investigators said the victim was getting off a bus near the intersection of Sandstone Drive N.W. and Berkshire Boulevard N.W. at around 10:45 p.m. when she was approached by a man she didn’t know.
The man spoke with the victim and assaulted her when she tried to leave. Police said the suspect then forced the woman to the ground where he tried to sexually assault her. An approaching bus scared the attacker, who ran off.
Collier, 24, of Calgary has been charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault in connection with the incident.
Police said Calgarians played a big role in identifying and locating the suspect.
Bus driver Amandeep Hunjan is being hailed as a hero for interrupting the attack. He then called 911 and waited with the victim. She was taken to hospital in stable condition.
Investigators believe the attack was random.
