MONTREAL – A Quebec man in his 80s is in hospital in critical condition after his car slid into the St. Lawrence River in Vercheres near Montreal.
The man was in the vehicle Wednesday morning when it suddenly surged forward from his driveway and traveled about 45 metres to the riverbank.
A neighbour called ambulance officials, who were eventually able to get him out of the water.
The man’s wife was taken to hospital suffering from shock.
She was not in the car at the time.
The exact cause of the accident was not immediately known.
