Ground crews, water bombers attack central Newfoundland forest fire

BUCHANS, N.L. – A forest fire is burning in central Newfoundland about 10 kilometres from the community of Buchans.

Eric Earle, the fire duty officer for the Department of Natural Resources, says the blaze is estimated to be about four square kilometres.

He says the province has a water bomber and ground crews working on fire.

Two helicopters are joining the firefighting teams today.

Earle says a southerly wind has been blowing the fire away from the community.
