A pickup truck was travelling north when it collided with a southbound semi and trailer unit.

The female passenger in the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene and the 78-year-old driver of the pickup was transported to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge with unknown injuries.

The driver and passenger of the semi were not injured.

RCMP said weather and icy road conditions contributed to the collision.

Highway traffic was also temporarily rerouted Thursday morning, but has since been reopened.
