17-year-old driver killed in central Alberta highway crash

A 17-year-old girl was killed in a two vehicle crash in central Alberta on Monday.

It happened just east of Blackfalds, Alta. on Highway 815 between Highway 597 and Lake Sergeant Road, at around 4 p.m.

RCMP said the 17-year-old was driving southbound on Highway 815 when her vehicle collided head-on with a northbound semi-truck. The 17-year-old, who was alone in her vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi-truck, a 57-year-old man, was transported to a hospital with minor injuries and later released.

The collision caused traffic in the area to be diverted.

RCMP said they won’t be releasing the name of the deceased.
