2,300 tickets in 24 hour Edmonton traffic blitz

EDMONTON — Nearly 2,300 violations were issued over a one day traffic blitz across Edmonton last week.

Nineteen hundred of the 2,295 total violations were a result of speeding. The rest of the tickets (373) were doled out for seatbelt infractions, impaired driving, distracted driving, and red light violations.

The numbers were nearly identical to a November enforcement blitz, when there were 2,316 violations.

Two vehicles were pulled over for driving nearly twice the speed limit. In one case, a vehicle was travelling 117 km/h in a 60 km/h zone in the area of Gateway Boulevard and University Avenue.

In another incident, a vehicle was travelling 114 km/h in a 60 km/h zone in the area of Lessard Road and 51 Avenue.

Both drivers were ordered to appear in court.

Edmonton police and the City of Edmonton regularly coordinate traffic enforcement campaigns.
