LETHBRIDGE – With the absence of snow and cold conditions in general, construction on northern Lethbridge’s first regional park is underway four weeks early.

The project was supposed to break ground at the beginning of April after it got its contract from city council at the end of January, but it seems there’s no longer any reason to delay.

“Our construction season is really limited to the summer, so adding four weeks to a 26-week season is pretty big for us,” City of Lethbridge parks manager Dave Ellis said.

The 73-acre park will be at the intersection of 13 Street North and 40 Avenue North, giving it a newly convenient location for residents in northern neighbourhoods.

“Similar to Henderson Lake Park or Nicholas Sheran Park, this is a regional park and it’s the only one on the north side of the city,” Ellis explained. “It’ll serve as a city-wide function, but will also be a real compliment to the residents on the north side of the city.”
