The city says the 30-centimetre line break was likely caused by frost and shifting earth.
Due to the larger than usual water release, a bigger area needed to be dug up by workers. The excavation has been patched with cold asphalt mix and will be paved with hot asphalt this spring.
Water service to nearby businesses has been restored.
