Stolen vehicle involved in fatal McPhillips St. crash: Winnipeg Police

WINNIPEG – A fatal, two-car crash at McPhillips St. and Jarvis Ave. may have involved a car stolen 20 minutes before the collision.

According to Winnipeg Police, a 71-year-old man was killed when his car was struck by a stolen Honda Civic as he tried to turn onto McPhillips from Jarvis.

The collision happened at around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Both the man and the 22-year-old woman driving the Civic were taken to hospital in critical condition.

Police believe the Civic was stolen in the Sherbrook St. and Ross Ave. area by an unknown woman.

Police also say the car was involved in a separate, minor collision between the time it was stolen and the fatal crash.

Alcohol and speed are being considered factors in the collision.
