SASKATOON – Chris Hadfield and Henry Winkler will be among the speakers when thousands of students from across the province make their way to Saskatoon for WE Day Saskatchewan. The annual celebration brings together students who have made a commitment to take action on causes they care about.

Joining Hadfield and Winkler is Canadian paralympian Rick Hansen.

“When I hear all the remarkable stories shared on the WE Day stage and see the encouraging reactions ripple through students in attendance, I’m filled with an undeniable belief that our next generation of leaders and difference makers are in the crowd taking part in the WE Day movement,” said Hansen, who is also an activist and philanthropist.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“I am honoured to return to the WE Day stage, not only to share my story, but to also gain inspiration from all of the young people that worked incredibly hard to be part of the celebration.”

Joining the celebrities on stage will be local youth with inspiring personal stories. One of those is Bandon Sand, 17, who was the first aboriginal student to take part in a grueling six-day run across Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni, which is the world’s salt flat.

Sand now uses his running experience as a source of strength and balance and will share his story to inspire others facing challenges in their lives.

It’s stories like Sand’s that brought PotashCorp on board as a regional sponsor of WE Day.

“Our young generation is taking action that is being felt around the globe,” said PotashCorp president and CEO Jochen Tilk.

“We’re proud to be part of a day celebrating their efforts of these young people who are making a difference.”

Others taking part in WE Day Saskatchewan this year include Dr. Joyce Banda, the former president of Malawi, Joseph Boyden, Francesco Yates, Scott Helman, and Tyler Shaw.

The March 2 event at SaskTel Centre will be co-hosted by Jessi Cruickshank, Tyrone Edwards and Aislinn Paul who will be joined by WE Day co-founders Craig and Marc Kielburger.
