Marc Poulin named new CEO of grocer Sobeys, joins Empire Co. board

STELLARTON, N.S. – Empire Co. Ltd. is promoting (TSX:EMP.A) Marc Poulin to president and chief executive of the Sobeys Inc. grocery store chain.

Poulin has been president of Sobey’s IGA operations.

The company says he will take over the job effective June 29 and will also join the Empire board of directors.

He replaces Bill McEwan who is retiring.

Sobeys owns or franchises more than 1,300 stores across Canada under several banners that include Sobeys, IGA, Foodland, FreshCo, and Thrifty Foods.

In addition to Sobeys, Empire holds a large stake in Crombie REIT (TSX:CRR.UN), an interest in residential land developer Genstar, the Empire Theatres movie theatre chain and a stake in Kepec Resources, a joint venture with ownership interests in oil and gas properties in Alberta.
