Flood watch in effect around Alberta

A flood watch was issued Wednesday for the Bow River in Canmore and Banff, where waters continued to rise following a severe storm.

Major damage was seen on the eastern edge of Canmore and pools of water remained in the streets.

Tuesday’s downpour saw Cougar Creek spill its banks, and torrents of water tore away big chunks of earth, washing away a 15 metre section of pathway near a pedestrian bridge.

Rural municipalities like High River and Cochrane also have emergency plans in place if the weather worsens, but at this point no sandbagging operations are planned.
