LETHBRIDGE – Alf Gurr is the manager at Lethbridge Honda and this week he packed up the snowblowers and put out the rototillers. Gurr has worked at Honda for almost 25 years and this is the first time he has sold a rototiller in February.

“People are coming in and talking about lawnmowers now and riding lawnmowers,” Gurr said. “It’s a total switch. It’s tough on us. When you are in this business you rely on the winter.”

Gurr said snowmobile sales are down drastically. Many snowmobilers haven’t been riding due to a less-than-solid base of snow and Gurr said fewer riders means fewer buyers. It also means great deals for consumers.

“Our weather pattern has changed over the years. We do our buying with weather patterns in mind now,” Gurr explained. “We cut back on snowmobiles this year knowing the farmer’s almanac said we were going to have a mild winter.”

But winter’s not over, it’s very early in the season and Gurr said he may be pulling out the snowblowers once again.

“It’s a quick switch. We get them out of the warehouse and flip it over back to snowblowers. In this country we expect a spring snowstorm. We know it’s coming.”
