CHATHAM, Ont. – The Ontario SPCA is making a request to euthanize 21 of the dogs seized as part of an alleged dog fighting ring in Tilbury.
Inspector Brad Dewar says it’s the most dogs requested the courts to have “put down” in his six years at the agency.

Dewar says the request has been made in the interest of the animals and public safety, and in consultation with industry experts.

He says the hearing will likely be held in the coming weeks at the Chatham Ont., courthouse, with a date possibly coming down next week.
Chatham-Kent police seized 31 dogs as part of the bust last October, and three people are facing a total of more than 270 charges.
