A Halifax Regional Municipality spokesperson said the $250,000 grant and $2.5-million loan was handed out by the previous Conservative government.

The Solar City project, which concluded in March 2015, allowed residents to install solar panels, hot air and water systems, and pay for them using their property tax bill.

The city spokesperson said the funding was not announced when it was first received, but there is a federal requirement to make a formal announcement.
